FUN IN THE SUN! Summer is the season to get outside, be in nature and the sun! Especially here in Canada, many of us suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. As often as you can, before 11am in the day, get outside for 15 to 20 minutes, soak in that sun! No need for hat, sunglasses or SPF, just enjoy the warm rays. When exposed to the sun, our skin can manufacture its own Vitamin D. After Vitamin D is absorbed through the skin, it gets storied in the body’s fat cells. It will remain inactive until we need it! I’m pretty sure, by winter we will all need it, and this will also help us stay healthy to fight against Viruses.
However, we all need to be responsible in the sun, we really need to be wearing a SPF 30, with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide in it, as these act as a physical block. Physical sunscreen is like a giant shield, sitting on the surface to deflect the sun rays. Chemical Sunscreen work like a sponge, absorbing the sun’s rays, causing the skin to get hot and sticky, sometimes this will lead to pigmentation issues.
LET US TALK ABOUT MY FAVORITE SPF! If I remember that UV light will age me very quickly, I am going to always remember my SPF. My favorite SPF is Protect MD, by Osmosis Beauty as it uses Non Nano Zinc Oxide. It is sheer, light weight and has no white residue. It is Antimicrobial, giving the skin the ability to heal. It is non-comedogenic, meaning it is oil free and will not clog the pores. Many will clog the pores, causing acne breakout. The best feature is the way it protects my, very fair skin, from the sun, it is the most effective sun protector, blocking out both short and long UVA and UVB rays. Just remember to apply 30 minutes before you go outside, and reapply every 2 hours.

THE TREATMENT ROOM The summer is all about luxury treatments, to bring balance and to boost the immunity of the body and skin. WATER! Skin cells, like any other cell, are made up of water. Without water, the skin will not function very well, nor will your organs and muscles. If you lack water your skin will become dry, tight and flaky. Eventually the skin will be less resilient and more prone to wrinkling. How much should you be drinking? Take your weight in pounds; you need 50 to 70% of your body weight in ounces. More if you are active.
HERBS FROM THE GARDEN! I love growing herbs such as Basil, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. I will use these in my cooking in the summer which has many health benefits, such as helping with digestion and my circulation. I will also use these to make teas or maybe dry some of them and use in my Holistic Treatments.
EAT BERRIES! They are loaded with antioxidants, which helps keep free radicals under control. They are loaded with nutrients, such as Vitamin C, Manganese, Vitamin K1, Copper and Folate. They even help inflammation! These really are a super food for our bodies, but stick with Organic as they are not loaded with chemicals.
